Hard Disk Drives vs SSD

ssd

Below we have use Passmark PerformanceTest to test the speed of a normal hard disk drive and an SSD.

500gig

ssd250

It is quite obvious that the SSD is way faster in performance.

The only thing you have to be careful of is that SSDs have smaller capacities and can fill up much faster, so we always recommend that you have an additional hard drive in your system for extra storage.

Windows 7 and 8 both create a swap file (pagefile.sys). Unfortunately the more RAM you have in your system the larger this file becomes which can fill up your drive.

ssd8

The above is a Windows 8 installation with only 8 Gig of RAM

ssd16

The above is the same Windows 8 installation but this time with 16 Gig of RAM

ssd32

The above is the same Windows 8 installation but this time with 32 Gig of RAM

To help resolve this issue you can always move the pagefile.sys to another drive
